MarkdownGallery

All your Markdown files, grouped and readable at a single glance.

Point to your folders (Desktop, Documents, project READMEs, Notion exports…) and MarkdownGallery shows a preview of every note in a gallery. Also works with Cursor plans (*.plan.md).

The problem

Your Markdown (.md) files are scattered everywhere, and you'd like to see them all together in a gallery.

Different GitHub repos, client reports exported as Markdown, tech-watch notes lying around in various folders, plans generated by Cursor. Finding one specific Markdown document wastes a ton of time.

MarkdownGallery answers this by indexing your content locally, so you can find a specific Markdown document in under 200 ms, without relying on Spotlight.

Inside the app

The app's key features.

Gallery, search, virtual folders, Cursor plans.

Gallery

The real rendering, not just a filename

Every tile shows the actual content: titles, lists, truncated code blocks. You recognize the note at a glance.

Search

Search a title or a word in the text

Local index on title + content, built during the scan. No finicky Spotlight, no waiting: get your answer instantly as you type.

Virtual folders

Organize by project without moving a single file

Create virtual folders to group your notes by project or client. Then drag your note into that virtual folder: the file stays right where it is on disk.
Colored dots, multi-folder membership, iCloud sync of your organization — and a JSON export if you switch Macs.

Cursor plans

Find your *.plan.md files without revealing hidden files

One button adds ~/.cursor directly as a source folder — no need for Cmd+Shift+. to dig up a hidden folder. Every plan tile shows a badge like 3/5: the number of completed todos vs. total, read from the YAML frontmatter.

Privacy

Apple sandbox, private iCloud

MarkdownGallery only accesses the folders you authorize via the macOS system picker. Your files' content never leaves your Mac. Only your organization (virtual folders, favorites) is synced via iCloud, exclusively between your devices signed into the same Apple account.

Who it's for

Anyone piling up Markdown without even noticing.

No need for a "second brain". Just find what's already sitting on your disk.

Developer

READMEs, changelogs, technical specs, and architecture notes scattered across projects, repos, and AI tools churning out Markdown non-stop.

Freelancer

Client reports, briefs, quotes exported as Markdown from Notion or a CRM — all in one place, searchable by client name.

Writer / content creator

Notes exported occasionally from your regular note-taking app, without wanting to reorganize everything or learn a new tool.

Why this exists

"While working with Cursor, my actual project plans (*.plan.md) kept ending up tucked away in ~/.cursor, invisible in a regular Finder. I needed an overview of my notes, not one more piece of software to configure."

— Christophe Surbier, independent developer

Not one more tool to learn

  • Zero configuration — point to a folder that already exists, no new system to set up.
  • Full overview — several files shown at once, not one at a time like Finder's Quick Look.
  • Reliable search — works every time, even on large folders.
